Review : Scandal in Spring
Alas the review of the last wallflower book of the series from Lisa Kleypas.
Third, (after writing the review) I am sorry for the length. But if your read it..it'll fly right on by *grins*
From the back off the book:
After spending three London seasons searching for a husband, Daisy Bowman's father has told her in no uncertain terms that she must find a husband. Now. And if Daisy can't snare an appropriate suitor, she will marry the man he chooses--the ruthless and aloof Matthew Swift.
Daisy is horrified. A Bowman never admits defeat, and she decides to do whatever it takes to marry someone..anyone..other than Matthew. But she doesn't count on Matthew's unexpected charm..or the blazing sensuality that soon flares beyond both their control. And Daisy discovers that the man she has always hated just might turn out to be the man of her dreams.
But right at the moment of sweet surrender, a scandalous secret is uncovered..one that could destroy both Matthew and a love more passionate and irresistable than Daisy's wildest fantasies.
You better have enjoyed that "back of the book" synopsis because I wrote that in hand instead of find the damn synopsis online.
I feel dumb..but regardless..be happy.
OOOK.
*chuckles*
Daisy Daisy Daisy..well first off, her real name isn't Daisy..its Marguerite.....mmmmmHMmmm.
Thomas, Daisy's dad, was furious Mercedes, Daisy's mother, named their youngest daughter after a flower. Lillian, her older and tempermental sister, started calling her Daisy..and it stuck.
I thought Lillian, was named after the Lily, la duh. And Daisy named after, a Daisy..but she was supposivly named after another flower.
Ok back onto the review.
Thomas gets furious that after so many years, Daisy cannot seem to find a suitable husband. During this searching process, they have been using so much money for her and is getting plainly sick and tired of it.
So he goes off and tells Daisy an ultamatium: Find a suitor by the end of May..or you'll marry the guy I want. da da daaahhh Matthew Swift.
He picks Matt because he is smart and is like a "son" to him. Thomas's sons want nothing of the company or have no knowledge to take care of it.
Daisy doesn't want to marry him because he's...arrogant..and a bag of bones (or from the memories she has of him)
Daisy, and the rest of the wallflowers, are at this lil party thing at Lillian's home, Stony Cross Park (the place with the wishing well)
Daisy visits this so called well and dumps an assload of pins into the will wishing...hoping..to find the right guy..and once she drops all the pins in there..here comes a handsome guy waltzing into the trees to her.
Everyone else in the world including Daisy is like...omg...have me..take me..here..now..omg..hotness.
Then.. *click * .. YOU. She finds out its Matthew. Bag of bones...heck no. This guy filled out every lil piece of skin. His hair is really silky brown (like every other hero) and his eyes are a piercing blue (again like every other hero) she goes aghast.
They talk and she finds out, oh, he's not SOO bad. And from my opinion this hunk is pretty damn smart.
Daisy is smart back, so like her.
Matthew has a HUGE crush on her like forever. And I just love that. I love it how a guy has a crush on a girl like forever. Anyways, Matthew got experience after the years (like any other hero) where he almost thirty and Daisy 22.
The scene where they get a lil close for the first time was when Daisy was trying to save a mean goose who was tangled in fishing line..Matt comes in to help her and holds the goose down (STUPID) while Daisy cuts the line off its webbed feet. While Matt lets go, it pecks him in its eye (again STUPID)
Daisy goes oh no and climbs all over him.....
..straddling him.
Daisy looks him over and finds out he's alright but notices he has a whole bunch of feathers in his hair. She pulls them out while Matt pulls feathers out of her hair. Daisy finishes but just keeps caressing him.
Now. All of you know when a female who the guy is lusting after is straddling him..he gets hard.
So obviously, Matt goes beserk and yanks her off. He fixes his attire and stalks off.
Daisy is NOT a stupid virgin, thank God. There are no bad guys in this book, well sorta, but not really, thank God.
There is about two loves scenes and like..three kissing scenes..all....nice. In the first love scene its raining and storming..like oh so romantic, seriously it is.
And Daisy is like..hell what am I waiting for..lets have sex. So..she and he after kissing like crazy go into the bachelor quaters and into his room. He just wanted to "talk," while Daisy....didn't. She goes to the door and locks it. Takes the key out and dangles it through an opening of her dress down through her chemise UNDER her corset. Matt goes, "You wouldn't."
[As he started around the dresser, Daisy dropped the key into her bodice, making certain it slipped beneath her corset. She sucked in her stomach and midriff until she felt the cold metal slide to her navel."
"Damn it!" Matthew reached her with startling speed. He reached out to touch her, then jerked his hands back as if he has just encounted open flame. "Take it out," he commanded, his face dark with outrage. "I can't."
"I mean it Daisy!"
"Its fallen too far down. I'll have to take my dress off."]
My jaw was wide open during this ordeal. DAISY BOWMAN. Do you see Daisy bowman doing this.
And to come to think of it she does have an older sister named Lillian..but I was still shocked.
I won't write anymore of this scene..and lemme tell you..its hot.
Oh and Matt does wear glasses..lucky girl. Got the man of her dreams.
The so called Scandal was about Matt, he is under warrant and arrest in America..and fled to England.
Long story cut short, he was under investigation for robbery of generations of jewelry from his employer.
The employer and two Bow Street officers are at Westfields house. Matt and Westfield walk in hoping to settle this ordeal, only for Matt to be knocked and punched once he steps into the parlor.
Westcliffs goes beserk, and its HILARIOUS. Lillian comes in, k, and starts bitching. OOOO I was like moving my neck and snapping my fingers with her. Im like go girl!!! LMAO
["A fine pair you are, taking orders from an ill-bred Yankee to abuse the household that offerd you shelter from a storm. Obviously you are too dullhwitted to be aware of all the financial and political support my husband has given to the New Police. With a lift of his finger he could have the Home Secretary and the cheif magistrate of Bow Street replaced with a matter of days. So if I were you--"
and another..
"Here, now," one of the officers said as he saw Daisy's meddling. "Step away from the prisoner, miss." Realizing she was ignoring him, the constable stepped forward with his hands half-raised. "Miss, I told you--"
"Don't you touch her," Lillian snapped, her voice containing a ferocity that caused a temporary silence in the room. Even Westcliff and Warring (the employer) paused in momentary surprise.
Glaring at the dumbfouned constable, Lillian went to Daisy and nudged her aside. She spoke to the constables with stinging scorn. "Before you take a step in my direction, I'd advice you to consider what it will do to your careers when it is made known that you manhandled the Countess of Westcliff in her own home."]
Would have yelled Amen, if I were present.
Its good..I was hoping for it to be a lil better. Four Stars.
The only thing I hate about this book is the END.
["We'll only be a few minutes my lord," Evie said. "Will you make excuses for us?"
St. Vincent laughed gently. "I have an endless supply, my love," he assured her. Before he let go of his wife, he turned her to face him and kissed her HARD ON THE LIPS LEAVING HER BREATHLESS, no no no just joking, on the forhead. For the briefest of moments, his graceful hand touched low on her midriff. The subtle gesture went unnoticed by the others.
But Daisy saw, and she knew at once what it meant. Evie has a secret, she thought, and smiled.]
What secret. I wanna know!!!! WTF. Is low midriff like obliques? So that said, wouldn't that "gesture" mean Evie is pregnant. And why the hell out THAT be a secret. Why would Evie withhold that part of information from her friends. WTF WTF WTF. ACCCK jofjeaiofjaoejfioeajofajefaiojf.
I hate you. Why do authors do this? Make you -think- and -wonder- after the book. Its total waste of brain power.
Just
tell us..ARRRGGG!
Just found out, silly of me, that "low midriff" also refers to stomach. But anyway, why didn't Evie blurt it out. UGH. She's my favorite character..oh well.
Also LisaK has announced she is making more wallflower books. One will be Cam's (can't flipping wait!) The others I have no clue. There are speculation that its Amelia (Cam's woman)'s sisters..some say it might be the Bowman sons..ugh. I would like some INFO!
*breathes*
Annabell's has a girl named Isabelle, and Lillian was hoping for a boy but got a girl named Merritt after the Vet came and helped her. Yup the Vet. And yup..the name Merritt.
Lillian and Annabelle where plotting to have their kids to be married. HAHAHA. w/e.
The picture inside of Matt and Daisy is soo beautiful. I want to tear it off and pin it on my cork board
But anyways. yea four stars.
Now..onto Angels and Demons.
First off, I would like to inform that this review may (and probably will) give off spoilers.
Second, I would like to state that I thought Devil in Winter was an overall better book..but thats just my opinion.Third, (after writing the review) I am sorry for the length. But if your read it..it'll fly right on by *grins*

You know that there are going to be some new Wallflower books. I think that LK mentioned it in her last newsletter.
squee!!! loved the review, thanks for the spoilers since I won't be reading this. do tell, did we get to see more of Evie and St Vincent???
yea, but it was more of Lillian's book more than Daisy's. LOL
Lillian was everywhere. Up down and in between.
She IS daisy's best friend and sister but by God, she took over.
But Evie and Sebastian did have appearances.
Although, I CANNOT wait for Cam's book because we'll get to see more of Seb.
